everybody hates tichu...

i have returned to blawg again! i'm proud of myself for actually doing this. so let's get into it with a recap of events past.

i bypassed an opportunity to play sand volleyball to play board games with eric (my roommate), crystal, and todd. i know, i know...why would i ever pass up a chance to play volleyball in the sand? if you don't know me, here's something to bring you closer...sand volleyball is so beneath me that every time i step out onto the sand, an angel loses a feather from a wing. i absolutely can't stand it, but that will be the subject of a future post that i'm thinking of right now...

so, board games. we started around 9ish sunday nite, and finished up well into monday morning, around 5am or so. it was a lot of fun, and i think that although it was a very calculated risk to put board games before volleyball, it paid off. something you might hear from me quite often (besides the occasional grammar correction here and there) is "i can accept that, and my heart is still open." it's kind of a principle that i adopted a while back that helps me to live my life with fewer worries and stress than i normally would have. i am, after all, extremely neurotic.

this is a game to which i suddenly found myself addicted. it's called tichu, as in "let me teachu a thing or two." that was my hand, which was a great hand. todd and i, however, had little to no luck against crystal and eric, who managed to whoop our arses every time. it was okay; i could accept that, and my heart is still open...somewhat. more on THAT later as well. anyway, if any of these people are reading this, i challenge you to another game of tichu. then i pull out a leather glove (because they carry more weight) and slap the taste out of your mouth.

anyway, it was BIG fun. i can see myself getting into this tichu. it's like spades meets poker. a sort of...spoker. there's another game nite scheduled for the weekend, and i'll be there. for people who know me, remember this: i'm ALWAYS a villager, and i'm ALWAYS allie. don't try to understand it, just accept it, and keep your heart open.

anyway, not to be outdone, i did end up going to play sand volleyball later monday nite. i'm financially bound to play there at least once a week for the next few weeks. i play with my good friend x, which is short for christ, which is short for christina, which makes me wonder why her nickname isn't x-ina. it's x-tina, but if protocol applies (and i'm thinking "x-mas" is from "christ-mas", and the lesser known "x marks the spot" which comes from "christ marks the spot"), then i would have to assume that her name would be shortened to x-ina. it would still be pronounced "x-tina" but...whatever dude.

meanwhile, we whooped some arse, beating paul penley's (from here on referred to as PP) team 18-2 in the 3rd game. it was epic. more importantly, i think we started a new thing. i happen to watch "friends" a lot lately (i'm not working so i have free time up the butt) and if you ever saw an episode where phoebe and joey reveal that they get together every now and then to talk about everybody else...it was nothing like that. it was the two of us...in the wendy's parking lot...with the fast food...

random notes to myself about more things about which to blawg: 学校開会, 同居友のエリック, なぜサンドバレーが嫌い, 文法警察の事, バレー家族...it just goes on and on. by the way...i can speak english as well.

well, i'm off to format my computer...again. it started out as a little thing that i do twice a year to keep out unwanted stuff, but now it seems i do it for trivial reasons. i guess i'm that kind of person. for examples, this is my new car. it's a suzuki sx4 crossover. it's like a mini SUV. i love it, and am still accepting suggestions for names (with the stipulation that the name must be japanese, unless you have an extraordinarily cool name...like seven). why did i buy it? did my old car break down? no, although the A/C went out and i spent $400 fixing it. was it too old? not really, it was a 2004 model. my reason: the CD player in my kia stopped playing CDs, and i absolutely must have my CDs to survive any trip from point A to point B. hence, the new car. by the way, the word "kia" comes from korean meaning "spirit of asia." i agree. so take it for what you will. am i that superficial and shallow? no, i tell you, NO...A THOUSAND TIMES NO!!!

i'm out of words, ttfn.

  1. This was great, you had me in stitches - I remember UNO nights in Shimmy do you? Remember how Michelle would slap down the snap card and reverse the whole direction? It was some rule we invented. You could've just bought an iPod/MP3 player..... Your new car reminds me of my old car. I drive a boring white VW Polo Sedan now - it's a mildly grown-up car! I want my Suzuki Kei back!
